SSH, or Secure Shell, is a network protocol that is used to connect to a server and conduct various tasks through a command line. The protocol is popular with many expert users, due to the fact that the info transmitted over it is encrypted, so it may not be intercepted on the way by a 3rd party. SSH access can be used for a number of things with regards to the type of web hosting account. With a shared hosting account, for instance, SSH is among the ways to import/export a database or to upload a file in case the hosting server allows for it. If you have a virtual or a dedicated server, SSH can be used for pretty much everything - you can install software or restart particular services like the web server or the database server which run on the machine. SSH is employed typically with UNIX-like Platforms, but there are clients which permit you to employ the protocol if your PC is working with a different OS as well. The connection is made on TCP port 22 by default and the remote web server always listens for incoming connections on that port even though lots of providers change it for security reasons.
SSH Telnet in Cloud Hosting
SSH access is offered with all cloud plans we offer. With some of them, it is included as standard, while with others it's an optional upgrade you can add with just a few clicks in your hosting CP. You can get SSH access through the section dedicated to it where you can also find the details you need to connect - the host, the port number and the username. You will be able to select the password which you will use and, if required, you shall be able to change it with several clicks from the same location. All the commands that may be used with our shared packages are listed in a help article alongside relevant instances. If the SSH access function is allowed for your account, you will also be able to upload files through your preferred FTP client via an SFTP connection.
SSH Telnet in VPS Servers
The VPS server offers we offer feature SSH access by default, not as an optional upgrade or a function that you have to enable. Once your new server is ready, you'll be able to connect and begin working on your content using the login details that you've entered through the order procedure. A copy of the SSH credentials shall be sent to you via e-mail as well. Because your VPS will be isolated from the others on the physical hosting server, there aren't any limitations in regards to what you can or can't do through SSH. You can download, set up and manage any piece of software that'll run on a Linux machine, reboot the entire server or only a specific software component, and work with files, folders and databases with virtually no restrictions. All you will need for this is a console or an SSH client on your end.
